The prototype stage of a project is often the most critical. The success of the final design is dependent on how the prototype performs in terms of fit, form and function. Phoenix Dynamics understands the importance of this and approaches any prototype build with great attention.

Where possible all material and process used will be production intent. The build will be closely supervised by the engineering department and any issues, observations and improvement suggestions are recorded. The completed product is then thoroughly independently checked and inspected against the customer’s information. The delivered prototype can be supplied with a full engineering report detailing all the findings identified during the build process.

The stage following the prototype build is usually validation testing. This can be either at the customer where the prototype cable assembly is fitted to the end product for some form of system test or alternatively the cable assembly may need to undergo test programme as an individual part.  Phoenix can manage this test programme, which is generally defined by the system specification, to validate the prototype harness design and/or the first off articles from a production run. Typical harness tests include thermal cycling, mechanical handling, EMC shielding effectiveness and immersion. Any deterioration in properties identified will be assessed in terms of changes to electrical parameters and fit for use.
